My sister-in-law Stacie learned to knit in our very first class for Knit Wits. After completing a warm, woolly scarf and starting a felted bag, she came in one day and asked if I could come up with a pattern for something small that she could knit up as gifts for women in a cancer care group she hosts. As her third project she tackled these bags and has now completed 30+ & counting. This project is addicting and a great way to use up your yarn scraps. Let us know what you use your pouches for. Treasure Pouch

These sweet pouches could be used for so many things. How about a tooth fairy pocket, a charm bag for a special friend, a jewelry gift bag, holding your stitch markers…..

You can use any yarn, or combination of yarn from your stash or scrap basket.

I have used anywhere from a 3 to a 6 needle, (double points) depending on the yarn. This is not an exact pattern just use whatever gets you a fairly firm fabric.

Cast on 5 stitches on one needle and knit in garter stitch until you have a square and can pick up 5 stitches along each side. Using a different needle for each side pick up and knit five stitches along each side and knit in the round for about 1 1/2 inches, or until bag is as big as you want it. Then use picot bind off as follows:

Insert the right-hand needle into the first stitch on the left-hand (LH) needle and knit a stitch but do not slip the stitch off the left needle. Slip the new stitch back onto the LH needle, then make a second new stitch as before. Cast off four stitches, then slip the remaining stitch back onto the LH needle. Repeat along the row, making two stitches and casting off four each time.

Make a chain, twisted cord, or just used some yarn to make a drawstring just under the picot edging.

Enjoy!
