Blue Sky Fibers Summer Knit Along

Every season Blue Sky Fibers hosts a knit along featuring patterns and yarns that are suitable for the time of year. This summer they are hosting a knit along of the Lakewood Tee and the Tulsa Tank, both knit with Blue Sky Fibers Organic Printed Cotton.

The Lakewood Tee calls for 5-9 skeins, depending on size and is knit bottom-up, in the round. The Tulsa Tank uses 3-6 skeins and is knit flat and seamed. Both patterns knit up quickly and are perfect for PNW summer weather!

If you would like to participate in the KAL, you can get a digital download code for the patterns free with the purchase of Blue Sky Fibers Organic Printed Cotton. If you are shopping online, just leave us a note at checkout and we will include it.

Tulsa Tee Tank and Lakewood Tee

June 1st, 2023

I decided to cast on the Lakewood Tee. I haven’t knit with Blue Sky Fibers Organic Printed Cotton before, but I am enjoying it quite a bit! It’s very soft and has lovely dappled colors.

I worked a swatch with the recommended US 7 and did get the gauge called for. I did the P1, K1 ribbed cable cast on as suggested in the pattern. If you are unfamiliar with this type of cable cast on, I used this tutorial from Brooklyn Tweed and found it very useful.

The Lakewood Tee is bottom up, so you start with the hem. The pattern says to “Work in Twisted K1, P1 Rib for 1 1/4 inch” and I was unsure whether they were talking about a true twisted rib (where both the knit and the purl are worked through the back loops), or a half twisted rib where the knit stitches are knit through the back loop but the purls are worked normally. I read through the pattern and later in the sleeve portion of the pattern, they are specific about working a Twisted Ktbl, P1 Rib (half twisted rib). So that’s what I did for the hem ribbing. It’s quicker to work than a full twisted rib and has a similar visual effect. I’m happy with the result! Here is my progress so far:

Stop in to the shop to take a look at the colors of Blue Sky Fibers Organic Printed Cotton we have available, and as always this yarn is on our website and available for shipping or in-store pickup.

We have a Tulsa Tank underway as well so keep an eye out for a post about getting started on the tank.
